Hilo: Volcano by Air & Land

Departs:  Hilo Airport Duration: 9 hrs *

Narrated, Landing, Volcano, Waterfall, Rainforest, Hike, Food

One of Paradise Helicopter’s most popular tours, the Volcano by Air & Land, is now available with departures from Hilo! Combine the thrill of doors off flight with unobstructed views of any lava activity, with an in depth ground tour of the area surrounding Kilauea Volcano.  Start with the only doors off helicopter flight over the volcano on Paradise Helicopters’ Doors Off Lava & Rainforests Adventure flight where your pilot will search out the day’s activity – sometimes a burning forest fire, a stream or lake of glowing lava, or even an entry into the ocean – usually only accessible from the air.

After the first part of your “air” experience, you will land in Hilo and meet your expert Hawaii Forest & Trail interpretive guide. Travel through the remote and rugged landscape of Kau– home to historic farms, ranches, and the famous black sand beach of Punaluu. Discover how the powerful forces of nature have shaped the people and landscape of this dynamic region, Hawaii’s largest land district. The perfect blend of nature and culture led by an expert Interpretive Guide, this tour reveals what it’s like to live on two active volcanoes.

  • Discover breathtaking views of Kilauea and the Kau coast and catch a glimpse of the Halemaumau Crater from a private view point on Maunaloa
  • Tour a local farm, sample and shop for Hawaii Island grown treats like coffee, macadamia nuts, honey and chocolate.
  • View Rainbow falls from our private gazebo
  • Walk across a crystal-fine black sand beach as you search for basking sea turtles at Punaluu.
  • Stroll through a native Hawaiian Rainforest at the Volcano Art Center, see locally made art, and learn about the latest eruption information
  • Explore a historic 165 year old working ranch known for its sprawling view planes, native forest, and wildlife such as cattle, goats, sheep & horses.

  • Available lava activity and volcanic formations
  • Experience a Black Sand Beach
  • Local Ranch & Farm Visit
  • Native Hawaiian Rainforest Stroll
  • Private Gazebo View of Rainbow Falls
  • Kohala Valleys & Waterfalls by Air

Advisory / June 2018

Although eruption activity is very high at this time, we are unable to guarantee that you will see "red" lava on your flight.

While we are flying all of our regular tours and charters, please understand that what you will see on our flights is highly dependent upon 1) the eruption, 2) the weather, and 3) the temporary flight restrictions in place. All of these vary from day to day and even hour to hour.

Please be assured that our pilots will do their best to navigate all conditions to deliver to you the safest and best viewing experience possible.
