Kohala High School is Gifted a Virtual Education Experience From Paradise Helicopters

Paradise Helicopters’ virtual education department, pilots and leadership recently produced and delivered a virtual Big Island adventure tour for the middle school and high school students of Kohala High School. ClimbHI, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create career development opportunities for Hawaii’s keiki, selected Kohala High School to receive this donated educational experience. Julie Morikawa, the president of ClimbHI, joined the virtual learning session in addition to the students and educators of Kohala High School.

Participants enjoyed a simulated full island tour of the Island of Hawai’i, while actively engaging in real-time dialogue with some of our team who have a deep knowledge of the island. The simulation was created from a professional recording of a live helicopter flight and included sights such as Volcanoes National Park, the towering waterfalls of the Kohala Region, South Point and the towns of Kona, Hilo, Waimea, and more. Students can gain a deeper understanding of the 11 climate zones present on Island of Hawai’i by observing the shift in the environment from the air. After the simulated tour, there was a dedicated Q&A session to answer student questions about becoming a helicopter pilot or pursuing a career path in aviation.

If you know of a school or educator whose students would benefit from an experience such as this one, please invite them to visit the Education section of our website or get in touch with the virtual education team by sending them a message. ClimbHI seeks to inspire students to finish high school and proceed to post-secondary education or employment by educating them about future career paths and the process necessary to achieve those goals.
